The Brodeur plan

By Ray Calder, HockeyObserver.com

Assuming you are one of those owners who just lost Martin Brodeur for the next 3-4 months, this article attempts to point out some alternatives for you to make the best of this very bad situation .

Kevin Weekes (New Jersey- starter) - At least in the interim he's going to be tested to see if he can carry much of the load (think something on the order of 2 out of every 3 starts) . Scott Clemmensen has been summoned to be his backup . Neither guy is a great option based on their track record, but at least for Weekes he will get first chance at the greatest number of starting assignments .

Jason Labarbera (LA Kings- starter) - Labarbera has been sitting on some waiver wires and he's on a team that has been surprisingly good early on limiting the number of shots the opponent has been getting . He's not a huge upside play but he's a starter and early on his team has been competitive enough .

Dwayne Roloson (Edmonton) - There are rumblings that Roloson would make some sense as an acquisition and he'd be affordable for the Devils as they get the salary cap exemption (long term injury) for Brodeur being out . If Weekes fails, he's probably a better bet than guessing that Nikolai Khabibulin would end up in Jersey . While he's most likely not on your waiver wire , he should be a reasonably priced trade target since the Oilers are carrying 3 goalies at the moment and none are dominating the stat categories making any overly expensive in roto.

If you can't get any of the above 3 then I would advise trolling the bottom of your leagues free agent pool for a Patrick Lalime (Buffalo), Jonas Hiller (Anaheim),Ty Conklin (Detroit) , Josh Harding (Minnesota)  or Erik Ersberg (LA Kings) . They're available on quite a few waiver wires and are just one injury away  from stepping into very good situations in their own right .
